New York-based designer Ulla Johnson has launched a limited-edition sunglasses and optical eyewear line with Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO). The boho chic designer also wants to open an LA store.
Johnson's first take on eyewear was previewed in her NYFW runway show. The eyewear collection with GLCO features four transparent colors of oversized acetate frames with rose-colored lenses that are available both for sunglasses and optical.
[post_ads]Designer Garrett Leight has called the designs character frames. He told Hollywood Reporter that, while they're still classic and based on the company's seasonal line, GLCO wouldn't normally release this type of frame for optical, adding, "We have occasional character pieces for the Jack Nicholsons and Jackie O's of the world.”
According to Johnson, the inspiration for the eyewear collaboration first came to her when she noticed both her husband and marketing manager were wearing GLCO frames.
As for the brand's planned West Coast expansion, Johnson said that she gets asked daily in her NY store when she is opening in California. The designer is currently scouting spaces in LA and hopes to open for spring of next year.
Johnson also alluded to more collaborations in shoes and handbags that would draw inspiration from LA's optimism.
The Ulla Johnson x Garrett Leigh eyeglasses are available now for $365.
