US-based fashion label Midnight Studios will this week launch an official collaboration with the Sex Pistols with an exclusive debut at Selfridges on June 27.
The label, founded by designer Shane Gonzales, is working with Bravado, Universal Music Group's merchandise and brand management company, on the collab that includes T-shirts and sweatshirts. Each piece has been created from original artworks and silhouettes based on the band's debut album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols.
As mentioned, it launches at Selfridges on Wednesday with the high-end department store having become almost the go-to venue for music-themed collabs of late. Recent link-ups for the store include a deal with the Rolling Stones connected to the band’s current live tour and one linked to the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 2017.
The launch for the Sex Pistols collab will include a preview event in-store on June 26 from 18:00 to 20:00.
The Midnight Studios x Sex Pistols line follows the label's previous capsule with Bauhaus, making it the second time the studio has collaborated with one of its core influences.
Known for its union of Japanese minimalist design and punk rock DIY culture, Midnight Studios was born out of 23-year-old Gonzales’ skateboarding and music culture Southern Californian background. His first fashion collection launched in 2014, featuring graphic T-shirts and sweatshirts inspired by rock ’n' roll, jazz, new wave, and experimental recordings.
He remains artistic director of the business but also works on the creative side for multiple recording artists and brands, including creative direction for A$AP Rocky and his art collective AWGE, plus Off-White, Guess Jeans, Rihanna’s Fenty line and others.
